A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Start with the label.

A short checklist to help you know what to look for before choosing a nutrition product.

1. Confirm who it is for

Find the intended audience and age guidance. A children’s range and an adult range can contain different quantities, even when an ingredient name looks familiar.

2. Read the serving information

Look for the serving size and directions together. Pack weight is not the same as a serving, and the number of servings may differ from the number of pieces in a pack.

3. Check ingredients and allergens

Read the full ingredient list and allergen information. Do not assume that a product meets a dietary preference from its name or colour.

4. Compare like with like

Check whether nutrient amounts refer to a serving, a scoop, 100 g or another basis before comparing two labels. Keep both products’ directions in view.

5. Keep the practical details

Check storage instructions, the best-before date, batch identification and manufacturer information. Keep the pack so you can refer to those details later.
